Zou Workshop Forum As a Laboratory

Zou Workshop Forum As a Laboratory

Mr. Khai Minthang
Atlanta, GA
(This article was taken from my writings at the Zou Workshop Forum on July 14, 2009)

Every single organization or association or group, official or unofficial, have their own defined goals or missions to be the cause for their existence, written or unwritten. Likewise, Zou Workshop Forum has its own defined goals or missions to be the cause for its existence. It is written on the homepage of our forum, and includes the following five points: Mission of The Zou Workshop Forum:

1. A source of information to the Zou information seekers,
2. A source of advice to the Zou youngsters - students and lay persons alike,
3. To be a Think Tank to the UZO, ZLS, ZYO and ZSP,
4. To answer questions related to career, studies, general questions, etc. of the Zous, and
5. To disseminate our wisdom, knowledge and passion for our forum and for the community.

It is noteworthy that it does not have anything close or related to ego or some kind of problem maker or being the patient. We are the care-giver; not care receiver, the doctor; not the patient, the answerer; not the questioner, the solution; not the problem, the clue; not the puzzle, etc. to our people and community. We have witnessed "the cart before the oxen" alot of times in our forum, and that does not give a good taste to others. Some bad guys tried to put our forum in harms way by diverting our laboratory into some kind of battlefield - a mental battlefield, and a physical battlefield later. We are here to achieve the five point goals/missions in a teamwork approach. We might differ in opinion, but we are always one in the outcome of the differing opinions, and this is what makes our forum so unique - "unity in diversity."

There are four basic steps that care-givers take in order to succeed - diagnose the problem, give treatment, evaluate the treatment and end the misson sucessfully. This is the formula we want to apply here in our forum. We are the care-givers, not the care-receivers. We are the formula users, not the object where the formula is being used. We are teammates in the laboratory, not foes in the battlefield. Therefore, these are the points we want to consider after the issue has been brought to our attention:

Step #1: Diagnose the issue/problem: We are here to diagnose the issue/problem. We have to physically, orally or logically diagnose the issue/problem with our virtual tools and implements or Stethoscope, feel the pulse of the issue/problem, examine the symptoms - visible and invisible signs and symptoms, etc. and master the issue/problem fully to give the best and most accurate medicine to the patient. We tended to ignore to diagnose our problem here at the ZWF and want to impose our ego-centric solution without adequately examining and sharing our thoughts to come to a comprehensive solution.

Step #2: Give Treatment: After an elaborate examination, and after fully mastering the issue/problem we ought to give the treatment or the answer to cure the patient/issue/ problem. You don't want to give economic solution to a political problem or vice versa. Likewise, you don't want to give a medicine that cures headache to a stomach problem. It does not cure the sickness, but rather intensifies it. Therefore, master the problem before injecting the shot to the problem. Give a little shot and evaluate.

Step #3: Evaluate the Treatment: Most of us, as a Zou thinkers tended to underestimate this process. We gave a shot and let it pull along by itself. Doctors, scholars and wisemen would never leave without evaluating the treatment being given/administered by them. This is one of the most crucial steps toward total accomplishment of the job. A mechanic/technician will not give your car that you put to fix the break, back to you before evaluating the job being done to your car. They will hard break and soft break to see it really works fine before signing the paper and returning your car back to you.

This is the step where you need to go back and forth. If this step does not work, you might need to go back to step #1. If you have mastered step #1, but does not work, you might need to take step #2 and administer another treatment or solution to the issue/problem. If the break to your car isn't properly fixed, it is so dangerous to drive - you kill yourself and others. Your body can be weak because of hunger, and thirst as well. If you are given water when you are hungry, go back to step #1 and diagnose the real problem -hungry, not thirsty, and administer some solid food.

Step #4: Mission Accomplished: This is the end of the mission. Some crazy people thought the mission has been accomplished without evaluating the treatment being administered. They just want to give their own single solution to every problem. Some people use "Anacin" for headache, upset stomach, body ache, tooth ache, fever, etc. I am not really sure if the medicine heals them or their faith heals them. But, I am quite sure that "Anacin" is a medicine to cure headache and some ailments related to it, but never an energy booster to carry a big basket of paddy across the steep hilocks.

Birthday Message, April 12, 2008

Happy Easter to all readers of this blog and happy birthday to me. Today, April 12, is my birthday. So, I have been thingking to "count your (my) blessings and name them one by one" and write here, but before that, I have decided to put my favorite scripture portion which is my priority for 2009. My "count your (my) blessings and name them one by one" article is on the way. Please, check out.
I want to be the change I want to see. Biblically speaking, there are two types of blessings - unconditional and conditional blessings. Your salvation (Spiritual blessing) is unconditional blessings and your earthly (Physical blessings) are your conditional blessings. Please read Deutoronomy 28 with me today. I want both. Am I so greedy? To get both the conditional and unconditional blessings is not greed according to the Bible. Which one do you want? Do you want both? Or, just one? Or, don't want'em? Do you deserve what you want?

The Psalms 37
A Psalm of David.
1
Fret not thyself because of evildoers,

neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

2
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,

and wither as the green herb.

3
Trust in the LORD, and do good;

so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

4
Delight thyself also in the LORD;

and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

5
Commit thy way unto the LORD;

trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

6
And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light,

and thy judgment as the noonday.

7
Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him:

fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way,
because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

8
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath:

fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

9
For evildoers shall be cut off:

but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

10
For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be:

yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

11
But the meek shall inherit the earth; Mt. 5.5

and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

12
The wicked plotteth against the just,

and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.

13
The Lord shall laugh at him:

for he seeth that his day is coming.

14
The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow,

to cast down the poor and needy,
and to slay such as be of upright conversation.

15
Their sword shall enter into their own heart,

and their bows shall be broken.

16
A little that a righteous man hath

is better than the riches of many wicked.

17
For the arms of the wicked shall be broken:

but the LORD upholdeth the righteous.

18
The LORD knoweth the days of the upright:

and their inheritance shall be for ever.

19
They shall not be ashamed in the evil time:

and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

20
But the wicked shall perish,

and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs:
they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.

21
The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again:

but the righteous showeth mercy, and giveth.

22
For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth;

and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.

23
The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD:

and he delighteth in his way.

24
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down:

for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.

25
I have been young, and now am old;

yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken,
nor his seed begging bread.

26
He is ever merciful, and lendeth;

and his seed is blessed.

27
Depart from evil, and do good;

and dwell for evermore.

28
For the LORD loveth judgment,

and forsaketh not his saints;
they are preserved for ever:
but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

29
The righteous shall inherit the land,

and dwell therein for ever.

30
The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom,

and his tongue talketh of judgment.

31
The law of his God is in his heart;

none of his steps shall slide.

32
The wicked watcheth the righteous,

and seeketh to slay him.

33
The LORD will not leave him in his hand,

nor condemn him when he is judged.

34
Wait on the LORD, and keep his way,

and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land:
when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.

35
I have seen the wicked in great power,

and spreading himself like a green bay tree.

36
Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not:

yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.

37
Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright:

for the end of that man is peace.

38
But the transgressors shall be destroyed together:

the end of the wicked shall be cut off.

39
But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD:

he is their strength in the time of trouble.

40
And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them:

he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them,
because they trust in him.

Neither in Mt. Gerizim, nor in the Temple of Jerusalem

Neither in Mount Gerizim,
Nor in the Temple of Jerusalem;
A Sermon on Worshipping the Father in Spirit and Truth
(John. 4: 23 & 24)

Khai Minthang

Introduction: We often associate things with some supernatural phenomenon such as Hausapivum for the Hausapi Spirits, Lungleen Kawl for the Lungleen Spirits, deep and still water inhabited by a Spirit, Caves and unnatural places associated with supernatural spirits. Such superstitions also, no doubt, haunted the Samaritans and the Israelites during the Inter-testamental Period. Therefore, our ancestors appeased and made sacrifices to a specific spirit at a specific location such as Sumtawng, Gampi, Suutpi, etc. sacrifices to appease the evil spirits. They appeased the Spirits in the fear of punishment or retribution, not that they worship and adore the spirits out of joy and gratitude. We are so very glad for what Jesus had done for us that we can worship the Lord out of our joy and gratitude for what He has done.

Appeasement or Devotional Worship?: This is a big question for us as believers and followers of the Living God. Some people try to appease the Lord for the fear of failure, for the fear of going to Hell, or for the fear of retribution. A lot of preachers preach about Hell and want people to convert to Christianity out of fear, but seldom preach the beauty of Heaven and that Jesus has made a place for him who believes. Some people belong to organization or to the church for the fear of death, not for the joy of eternal life after they die. I am immensely pleased for the Mission of God (Missio Dei in Latin) and want to worship the Lord out of gratitude because I was condemned and have no other choice of destiny then Hell. Is not that the Good News that Jesus talk about???

Mount Gerizim, Jerusalem Temple or Church: Some people still cling to old concept that God is only in the church and the church is the only place where we should worship Him. This concept is wrong and irrational because we believe that God is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent which mean all powerful, all holy and all present (present everywhere). Therefore, God is everywhere and can do everything at any given place or time. It does not necessarily have to be the church where God wants to dispend His wills and blessings. Cannot we worship God outside the mount Gerizim, the Jerusalem Temple or the church? We sure can!!! Are not we the children of God outside the mount Gerizim, or the Jerusalem Temple or the church? We sure are!!!

Let us Examine Ourselves: Wherever we are, we are with God. Is this comfortable with you? Maybe Yes; maybe No. Our sinful nature don’t want God wherever we are, right? Why? Because we want to do something that God doesn’t want us to do. We want to turn our back when we feel like it. Then, do we lose our salvation after doing what God does not want us to do? Of course not!!! But, that brings unhappiness and sadness to our Father and guilt to ourselves. If that does not bring guilt to you, maybe you need to check if you really are born again. If you love doing these sinful things, maybe you don’t belong to the family of God. If you look like a wolf, eat like a wolf, howl like a wolf, behave like a wolf and like what a wolf likes, then you are a wolf no matter what you say you are! If you sin, ask forgiveness to show that you are sorry for your sins. If you fall, stand up for you are not dead. If you fall and cannot move or stand up again, you may be a dead guy. If you keep sinning and does not feel guilty or cannot control, check yourself to see if you belong to God or Satan.

Are You a True Worshipper?: The Bible says, "The hour is coming, and now is, when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those that worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4: 23, 24) God is Spirit. If He was natural, you would be able to see Him. We are a three part being - body, soul and spirit. It is our spirit that communicates with His Spirit. Then, the Holy Spirit will tell the truth which in turn will set us free.

For some people in Zogam, we worship God with our body and voice, but not with spirit and truth. There are lots of people, even the clergymen and clergywomen, who worship God with their bodies and emotions, but not with spirit and truth. Here is how: We sometimes have get together or some social services in the name of God and worship as long as our emotions are enthusiastic, our stamina strong and the environment favorable. When we come to the church (Mt. Gerizim or Jerusalem Temple) we presume that the Lord is in there and worship Him by kneeling down before Him, sing praises of His name, shout in joy and gladness for what He has done, etc. but put away the skin of Christianity once we step out of the church, Mt. Gerizim or the Jerusalem Temple. I am not saying we must not kneel down, sing praises or shout in joy and gladness in the church. But, I am saying that the nature of our worship is more important. Our commitment to Christianity is not just occasional or random that has to be driven by emotions, but it is a perennial and consistent commitment that has to be driven by God and our spirit of conscience (principle).

True or False Commitment?: Even some people do dirty things such as partying, drinking, eating, etc. on the last night of the year (Dec. 31) to send off the year and attend the church the next day (New Year Day) with full spirit of Christian commitment. Their spirit of commitment will melt down as the year passes by. They will have to use up the last remaining spirit of commitment on Christmas day, and they will have to do the same send off program again to start fresh again, and wait for the cycle to come. I commitment dante uh tambang maimai hiveh aw guai!!!

So, are you a true worshipper? Or, are you a pretending worshipper? The antonym of true is false. Therefore, if you are not a true worshipper, you are a false worshipper. There cannot be half-way true and half-way false because God needs mathematical accuracy or truth to anything true. He says, “No one can serve two masters,” and “So, because you are lukewarm - neither hot nor cold - I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” (Cf. Matt. 6:24 & Rev. 3:16)

The True Worshipper Worships in Spirit: The Bible does not say, “God is Spirit, and those that worship Him must worship in the church/Mt. Gerizim or Jerusalem Temple only.” But it says, “God is Spirit, and those that worship Him must worship in Spirit and truth. What we can see here is not the location of the worship that is important, but the nature of the worship is one that counts. Here, the location is the church, Mt. Gerizim or Jerusalem Temple and the nature of the worship is “in spirit and truth.” That’s all. So, which place of worship is more important in Zogam - the church or in spirit and truth? Turn back to John 4: 23 and see what kind of worship the Father seeks. Waw!!! He does not matter where you worship Him, but He does matter how you worship Him. That’s right. And, which one is more important to you - the worship (ritual) or the worshipper? If the worship (ritual) is more important to you, you may need to check it again because God seeks the worshipper! He says through the word of Samuel “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.” (1 Sam. 15: 22)

The True Worshipper Worships in Truth: Every word of God is true. How true? Very true, huh!!! God’s word is the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth. God creates, Jesus Christ redeems, and The Holy Spirit sanctifies us; This is the truth we have to accept. But Satan conceals the truth and wants us to doubt about the truth. Why? Because he rebelled against God and was ultimately “…fallen from heaven…cast down to the earth.” (Isa.14: 12-15) Since then, Satan has been always at war with God. Satan conceals the truth because he wants to hurt God, not you and I. He does not profit anything from your sins, but he wants to see the sorrow of God when His children (you and I) sinned. Our sins don’t appease Satan, but you sadden God. And, that’s the mission of Satan. The greatest mission of Satan is to alienate God from his creation by concealing the truth. He wants you to be the beloved son of God, not knowing the truth of being a son, behaving in a way that brings sadness and sorrow to your Father.

The first experiment of Satan to us was in the garden of Eden. In Genesis 2:17 God said to Adam, “But you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.” But Satan said, “You will not surely die.” (Gen. 3:3) Adam and Eve ate the fruit!!! Ultimately, they (Adam and Eve) were driven away from the garden of Eden. Which one is true - “you will sure die,” or “you will not surely die?” They literally die because they became mortal, and they also metaphorically die because they have been separated from the presence of God, their creator. Satan’s Mission accomplished!!! Satan used the same word and phrase except for one more word "NOT." Therefore, temptations will be based on the Bible (the truth) with just some additions or modifications. Satan’s mission is to dethrone God, destroy all creation, deceive the world, and divide the world, and especially the church.

There are lots of people who doubt the accuracy of the Word of God because they have been tempted by Satan. They don’t want to read the Word of God to quench their thirst and to clarify their clouds of doubt. Even if they read the truth Satan will loom over them with doubt by adding or subtracting something to conceal the truth because if he does not, they will know the truth and the truth will set them free from his yoke. That would be a dead blow to Satan. But if someone reads the Bible with a sincere spirit and willing heart, s/he will discover the truth, and "the truth will set you (them) free." (John 8: 32) Scholars, critics, scientists, and many more have been trying to find the fallacy of the word of God. The more they do, the more they know the truth. The Bible or the Word of God has undergone so many tests and challenges unlike the other sacred books of other religions. And listen, the Bible passes all tests and challenges and brought about the critics to life in the Word of God. Therefore, a true worshipper will worship God in accordance with the Word of God which is the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth.

Conclusion: Mount Gerizim, the Jerusalem Temple or the church has been considered the dwelling place of God by the Samaritans, Israelites and the Christians respectively. We often associate or think that a particular place would be more sacred then the other place and want to worship God in that place to get closer to God or to get our sacrifices acceptable. This is our superstition or our mental state or emotional state which is somehow close to reality, but not (the) reality. It is not the truth, but it looks like the truth. Satan tempts us not with something you know is false, but will tempt with something close to reality, but not actuality. There are lots of Christians who does not look like a Christian, does not eat or drink like a Christian, does not speak like a Christian, does not behave like a Christian, and does not like what a Christian likes, but claims that they are Christians (rather born-again Christians). Do you believe they are Christians? If you look like a wolf, eat like a wolf, howl like a wolf, behave like a wolf and like what a wolf likes, then you are a wolf no matter what you say you are!

New Year Resolutions

New Year Resolutions;

A New Look at Our Determinations and Resolutions

Khai Minthang

Introduction: We have wind up 2008 and have clinched 2009 with a mixed feelings of hopes and fears. Firstly, some of us have ended 2008 satisfactorily, yet want to do better in 2009. Secondly, some did not wind up 2008 satisfactorily and want to do right in 2009. Thirdly, some of us wind up 2008 without any significance, yet don’t have any plan for 2009 and want time to tell what to do. Forthly, another yet, some of us routinely make New Year Resolutions and share about it at home, in the church and in fellowships during the New Year celebrations, but never or seldom plan and implement their resolutions and end up with the same commitment the next year. The question here is - Which type of person are you?

Type One: Good and optimistic person, huh? As the year rolls on, these type of people have successes as they unfold their plans and implement them one after another. They have successes stemming from the lowest level of the individual or family that moves upward and continues to have a very optimistic future as the days unfold. As I went through some of the most successful personals or families, I can see that most of them deserved it. Their successes have never been chances, but they have been determined, planned and implemented rightly. They have solidified the foundation and mount the ladder of success like an eagle soaring up the sky. And, they could say, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” (Ps.23:6) Why? Because they have been determined, planned and implemented.

Type Two: Bad and unsuccessful in 2008, and want to turn around and try to set their foot on the right track in 2009, right? Relinquished their duties and responsibilities in 2008. Like the prodigal son; finished the ordeal and eating with the pigs, lamenting on the pains; thinking of his father’s wealth and wanting to come back home. That’s right!!! Good New Year resolution, yet have a lot of things to do to get back home and push themselves towards success with a solid foundation behind. Their one-way (first trip) journey will determine the length of their homecoming journey. It will definitely be a lot harder because the first journey was undertaken with full-stomach, with joy and merrymaking. Their homecoming will be weary and tiresome because it’s going to be a journey with empty-stomach, coupled with grief and lamentation. But, it’s worth it because the longer you travel the farther your homecoming journey will be. These people are on the way to success no matter how hard the ordeal is right now!

Type Three: Bad and unsuccessful in 2008, yet don’t realize they are on the wrong track. Oh boy, you have gone too far, you ought to come back now!!! Many people keep on lamenting and cursing God because of their failure, and don’t realize that their failure is just because of their lack of determination, planning and implementation. Shame on them! They thought things are going to happen by accident and they will be successful by chance. They thought they will reap the fruit from somewhere they don’t sow and give a name to God (thought a blessings from God) for the fruit they got from somewhere they don’t sow. They ask for help and if they are not helped they cursed and said they are not godly. If they are helped, they forget (don’t want) to give thanks to the person who helped them, but thought that the person will not get tired of helping them. This is the worse form of poverty. They allowed their lives to be blown by the wind of uncertainties. They are not certain about their determinations, not even to speak of the planning and implementation. They don’t even know where to go, not even to speak of the how and when to go. Come on!!!

Type Four: Looks good, but empty inside. They routinely make New Year Resolutions and share about it at home, in the church and in fellowships during the New Year celebrations, but never or seldom plan and implement their resolutions and end up with the same commitment the next year. They saw the same seed they have sown last year and expect different fruit. They take the same route they took last year and anticipate to reach different destination. They said they are not satisfied with the last year or they want different result but they don’t change or add anything to their lives to make that happen this year. Ridiculous!!! Reality overlapped their emotions (emotion during the celebration) and they could not or don’t have the courage to change and add or subtract some elements from the last year elements. They determined, but don’t lay the blue-print or master plan and don’t implement their determinations or agendas that they have made during the celebration. So, what would be the next year’s agendas again? Same all, same all, huh???

The Logic of Where, How and When: A whole bunch (a lot of people actually) want to go somewhere higher and better then their status quo, but foolish people don’t know where, how and when!!! A portion of that people (half-way empty people) know where to go, but failed to know how and when to go; another portion of that people (half-way full people) know where and how to go, but failed to know when to go. A very little portion of that people (all the way full) know where, how and when to go. The Zou thupil (Zou proverb) says, “Sia asatlai in sat in” (Strike while the iron is hot).

What to Do Now?: I have got a little experiences with regards to making agenda and deliberately discuss about it to make resolution on the agenda being discussed. Firstly, agenda could be compared to determination when it comes to personal or organizational levels. There cannot be any deliberation without any agenda; no resolution without deliberation; no implementation without resolution, and hence no result (output) without implementation. In the deliberation process the ways and means has to be worked out unless some designated persons have been assigned to work out on the detail planning or to chalk out the details. Moreover, a specific and precise date and time has to be set up to implement the resolved resolution(s).

So, what is your new year resolution? Which part of your personality (+ies) or activity (+ies) do you feel lacking? Or, which part do you want to improve? Which part do you want to retain and which part you want to throw away? Let us say your new year resolution is “More time with my family.”

Let us discuss:

A) Determination: The determination or agenda is “More time with my family.”

B) Planning: The Planning or deliberation ought to be:
1. How much time did I spend with my family last year?
2. Which part of my time that I spent last year should be retained?
3. Which part of my last year time management should be cut off in order to give more time to my family?
4. Does the cut off time have side effect on myself and my family?
5. If yes, how shall I compensate the cut off time?
6. What do I hope to get out of my resolution?
7. When shall I start my resolution?
8. When shall I wind up if this resolution does not work out?
9. Do we all feel happy and contented?
10. Can we all share the quality time that I made as a new year resolution?, etc.

C) Implementation: Implementation should follow the detail planning of the agenda or determination.

D) Result (Output): The result or output of the input should be analyzed and assessed in order to get the desired result. The planning and the implementation ought to be checked and re-checked to make sure it does not lack anything or to be affirmative, to make sure it is on the right track. If it lacks the desired result, go back to Planning and Implementation sections and make necessary changes and see the result again. Evaluate the result again; if negative go back to Planning again, if positive go to END.

E) End: If you have perseverance the end will be positive and affirmative. If you cannot wait and lose your hope on the way or while analyzing the result, there is a likelihood of failure to your resolution, and you might need to make the same commitment or resolution the next year.

Conclusion: Many people are fond of making resolutions during Christmas and New Years but seldom plan and implement them to get the desired result. Likewise, many people determined to go to heaven, but failed to plan and implement the ways to take them to heaven. Many people determined or aimed to get something, but never buys them with the right approach and right effort. Our resolutions and commitment to the Lord have to be checked and rechecked to get the desired result without which we will end up our resolutions and commitments without any significance. Anyway, I want to be the best of what I can be, trying to be the son, brother and friend I want to be, a well mannered, positive and inclusive in 2009. So, help me God!!!
